Holy Week

Lent, Holy Week and Easter hold special meaning in my heart. The seasons of the Church reflect – depending on what part of the world you’re in – the seasons of the year. This time of year calls us to reflect on our lives where we can make changes and improve and where we’ve done well. We need to acknowledge both. Both of our dads passed away during the season of Lent with mind passing away on Palm Sunday, also his favorite day of the year – April 1st.
hyacinth bloomsTwenty-two years ago I was Confirmed and received First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. The Easter Vigil is my favorite Mass EVER. Starting outside; lighting the fire, the readings (all 9 if possible please), the incense,  the Litany of the Saints, the Rites of Initiation and welcoming the new candidates and catechumens into full Communion in the Church. Oh my it doesn’t get much better than this. Oh yes, there is the well sung Alleluia or Hallelujah.
Shhh, I don’t like playing favorites but I do have a favorite Priest and would love to be at his Parish next Saturday but I have to work that day and getting into the City is a bit of a pain.
There is a depth of richness and beauty that comes with this time of year. Oh don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas. But Easter. Lent/Holy Week/Easter – this is it. This is the Christian story. The Love Story – the story of the Great Love of God. This sums it up. This calls us to conversion. This is the heart of our Story – Redemption – the moment that changes our relationship/restores our relationship with God. Drawing us closer to Him.I think I’ll connect this to quilting later this week. I do have a clear connection because I’ve experienced it in a way that I never expected.

God bless!

  1. you almost make me want to be catholic again. There is something about the pomp and ritual that makes certain things feel even more special. Maybe i will wear my communion crown and veil for a little while…….
