When the song in your heart is Hosanna and the line from the song is Break my heart for what breaks Yours.
What do I even begin to say.
As I sit here to write I hear that line running through my head.
This is at once a song of praise and the deep lament of an open, broken heart.
Every day during the Celebration of the Eucharist (Mass) we sing (most of the time) Hosanna (sometimes the words are recited rather than sung (usually when there is no leader of song). Hosanna was sung as Jesus entered Jerusalem on Passion/Palm Sunday.
Jesus certainly had his heart broken that week – betrayed by friends, the government, religious leaders and others who followed him.
Hosanna!
It’s that paradox thing again.
A broken heart is a good thing.

A broken heart led me here, writing this blog, giving consideration not only to who I am, what I do and what I say and giving consideration to how that’s perceived. I’ve chosen to actively pursue being positive, not to have a Polly Anna look about life but to share a deep truth: I love what I do as a quilter and I’ll keep plodding away at it just as long as I can and be happy about it. I am truly happy to be who I am in the quilting world.
Does it mean that I’m not disappointed sometimes? There is nothing further from the truth and often that has to do with me.

Does it mean that I like what happens in the quilting community all the time? No. But I recognize that we’re all human and we have faults and failings. Just like our quilts.

Does it mean that I’m going to stop working hard to go someplace special (I do have goals and dreams)? No. Because I do have those goals and dreams. Goals and dreams are good, holy things and they are achievable and give me something to work towards.

I am going to do my best as a teacher to help you get through the suffering and heartache that are just part of quilting. Those earworms, saying in endless loop how awful this is, how bad it is, you’ll never be able to do it, why are you even trying this? As a teacher I hope to help you see the good in your work but also look at it in a way where you can see the flaws, errors and downright awful choices as part of the learning process.

Because overall quilting is a Hosanna moment. Ultimately it brings great joy. When we see someone appreciate the quilt we’ve just finished there is that physical reaction of joy swelling up in our heart.
